 From Mushti Mudra (a fist), raise your thumb up. 

It originates from Meru-bow, when Candra-Shekhara (Shiva) held Mt. Meru (Equator) as his bow.
Its sage is Jihna,
its estate is Gandharva,
its colour is dusky,
its patron deity is the God of Love (Kama, Madana, Rati-Vallabha, Smara, Manmatha).

Viniyogas (Meanings)

  1.     Madana - Manmatha or Kama, the God of love
  2.     Kaamuka - Bow
  3.     Sthamba - Pillar
  4.     Nishchaya - Certainty
  5.     Pitri-karmani - Offering to ancestors
  6.     Oshtra - Lips
  7.     Pravishta-ruupa - To pour liquid
  8.     Radhana - Teeth
  9.     Prashna-bhavana - Questioning
  10.     Linga - Shiva Lingam or Phallic symbol
  11.     Naasteeti-vachana - Saying "I don't know"
  12.     Samarana  - Recollection Abhinayaanthikam - Intimate suggestion
  13.     Katibhandhakarshana - To lighten the waist band
  14.     Parirambhavidikrama - Embracing
  15.     Ganta-ninada - Sounding a bell


When a dancer completes learning all of Mushti gesture usages he / she recites:
Shikhara Jujyate Bharata Divi
