Gesture of greeting and adoration, veneration, honor or celebration, the diamond handclasp.

Both the palms in Pataka are joined together. It means salutation to the God, Elders, Teachers and a Brahmin.

This Mudra is very often used for greeting people.

  1.  The Anjali mudra is kept above the head to offer salutations to the God.
  2. It is kept in front of the face to offer respects to the Teachers and Elders.
  3. It is kept in front of the chest to offer pranams to the twice-born or the Brahmins.


 When a student completes learning he/she recites:
 Yevamardyeshu Yujanthay Pathaaka hasta Bhaavanaah.
